Overall voter turnout at the 2020 parliamentary election is 71%, Election Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya said a short while ago.
Addressing the media at a press conference held at the EC head office in Rajagiriya, Mr Deshapriya added that the election was peaceful, with only several minor incidents being reported.
He said counting of ballots will begin in some counting centres by about 8am. While they were hoping to release final results before midnight tomorrow, the EC Chairman added that if this could not done, they will definitely be able to release all the results before 6am on Friday.
As for preferential results, the Chairman stated that they hoped to release these results before 6am on Saturday.
