Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka will appear before the Presidential Commission probing state sector corruption tomorrow (Jun 6), regarding an alleged power-related case.
The Minister of Megapolis & Western Development had filed this complaint against the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) upon an instruction given by the cabinet of ministers.
Mr. Ranawaka claimed that the CEB had faced losses amounting upto Rs 20 billion over an illegal purchase of 5188 hydro-power units of electricity last year.
The complainant had also alleged that a fraud costing billions of rupees had taken place while re-activating a power station, in violation of procurement proceedures, to supply electricity to the national power grid.
This power station had been shut down in 2015 before being re-activated, Minister Ranawaka had pointed out in his complaint.
Accordingly, the Minister will provide witness statements before the Commission at 9:30 am tomorrow. The Presidential Commission is currently investigation into allegations of corruption in state institutions from January 15, 2015 to December 31, 2018.
