Three persons have died after verbal disputes escalated into brawls across three areas yesterday (May 22).
A 38-year old man was killed in Peldamulla after an argument broke out between two individuals who were under the influence of liqour, police said.
According to the police the suspect had assaulted the victim using a wooden pole.
The body has not been removed from the location while the area has been cordoned off as a crime scene. No suspects have been arrested so far.
Another dispute in Sapugaskanda resulted in the death of a 48-year old man last night.
The deceased has been identified as a construction worker who was employed at a residence which is being built in the area, police said.
The worker had been killed after another construction worker had attacked him using a sharp object. Both persons were under the influence of alcohol when the incident had occured, police noted.
Measures were taken to demarcate the area as a crime scene and not remove the body from the area until investigations conclude. No suspects have been arrested so far.
Another man has died after an intruder attacked a couple at their residence in Weeragula last morning (May 22).
The husband had passed away while receiving treatment at the Gampaha hospital at around 10 am.
The suspect who had carried out the attack has been identified, police said. Accordingly, Weeragula Police are conducting further investigations to apprehend the suspect.
