The secretary of Our Sri Lanka Freedom Front (OSLFF) has filed a writ of application in the Court of Appeal seeking an interim order not to hold the General election on August 17 in the Jaffna electorate. The party Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam said they were informed on July 14, the day after the nominations closed by the returning officer of Jaffna that their nomination papers have been rejected according the parliamentry election law and were seeking a court order to accept their nominations. In his application, Sagara Kariyawasam mentioned the twenty four individuals as the respondents including the Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya and Jaffna Returning Officer. He also stated that according to the parliamentary election law 15 (3) the secretary of the party has to filed the nomination papers on behalf of the party, which they did on July 13 but was rejected.

The Supreme Court today refused interim relief in an application filed by President’s Counsel Senaka Walgampaya seeking an Order from the Supreme Court compelling the President to appoint judges to fill the existing vacancies in the Court Of Appeal.
