Petrol only for vehicles - Ministry

The Ministry of Petroleum Resources Development is to issue a circular today declaring that petrol should be pumped only to vehicles until the current fuel crisis is over.  

Accordingly, filling stations will be instructed not to pump petrol into cans or bottles.

The move has drawn strong protests from the Ceylon Motorcyclists' Association (CMA). In a letter addressed to Minister of  Petroleum Resources Development Arjuna Ranatunga, the CMA points out that the method will be impractical given that there are vehicles stopped on the road after running out of fuel, while it would also affect the fuel supply for generators and industrial machines that are used on a daily basis.
