The Ministry of Transport plans to regulate bus horns by introducing one standard horn for all buses.
The move to look into standardizing bus horns comes after complaints from public over the noise level of bus horns, a senior Transport Ministry official said.
Accordingly, Transport Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has instructed that a committee of experts be appointed to look into identifying a horn with a low decibel level so that it could be introduced for all buses.
Once the committee identifies a particular horn, a Cabinet paper will be introduced to make that horn type uniform for all buses. Accordingly, measures will be taken to remove all other types of horns from buses, the official said.
