Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has sought a report from the Attorney General (AG) with regard to bringing the controversial Batticaloa Campus under the government's purview as set out in Section 70 (F) of the Universities Act.
Section 70 (F) of the Universities Act notes that that the Minister-in-charge, could vest a Campus with the government, when considered necessary in the interest of the public.
According to sources at the Prime Minister's office, Premier Wickremesinghe had made this request in order to consider whether the Campus could be acquired by the government under the said Act, in light of former Governor M.L.A.M. Hizbullah's recent controversial remarks.
