Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has said that he would form a new alliance called the ‘National Democratic Front’ in the near future.
Addressing the ‘Yukthiye Satana’ (Fight for Justice) rally at Galle Face today (Dec 17), PM Wickremesinghe said that his faction has now identified their mistakes and vowed to rectify those mistakes in future.
“We will now develop a much closer relationship with the people” PM Wickremesinghe said.
He also charged that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa did not even know the location of the countries which he cited as examples of governments that were dissolved before its due date.
Commenting on the unruly scenes that were witnessed in Parliament, PM Wickremesinghe said that those involved in bringing chillie powder into the chamber should be sent to the parliament’s kitchen and not the Parliament.
The UNP leader also emphasized that the independence of the judiciary has been strengthened by the 19th Amendment to the constitution.
Mr. Wickremesinghe also dismissed allegations made by the former President claiming that the former would put forth a new constitution to divide the country.
“We will always ensure that the unitary nature of the state is preserved” PM Wickremesinghe told supporters at the Galle Face green.
