The immigration officials and intelligence units in Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) and Mattala airport are on alert to arrest Uva Provincial Minister Senthil Thondaman, if he plans to leave the country, police said today. Last week the Bandarawela Magistrate has issued a arrest warrant for the provincial minister who is charged with assaulting a postman during election period. Protests have been held in Badulla district by postal department officials demanding the arrest of the minister.

A Sri Lankan man was apprehended at Suvarnabhumi airport for attempting to smuggle wildlife out of the country after three ball pythons were found hidden in his underwear, the Bangkok post reported.
