A sum of Rs 45.8 million has been allocated to remove all posters, banners, and cut-outs of Presidential candidates, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said.
Issuing a statement, the Spokesman said that 1,045 individuals will be recruited across all Police stations island-wide to remove illegal adverts.
He noted that individuals who utilize polythene in promotional posters will face higher charges in line with the National Environment Act which prohibits the usage of polythene in decorations at any event.
“Instructions have been issued to all Police stations to take action against lawbreakers in line with the Presidential Elections Act and the National Environment Act,” Mr. Gunasekara emphasized.

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
