A police officer has been hospitalised after being allegedly assaulted by parliamentarian Shantha Abeysekara's son last night.
The victim has been identified as Susantha Anura Kumara, a constable attached to the Ministerial Security Division.
It is reported that the victim had lodged a complaint at the Chilaw Police stating that he had been attacked using a wooden pole.
The police officer is receiving treatment at the Chilaw General Hospital.
Meanwhile, parliamentarian Sisirakumara too is reported to have subsequently filed a complaint over the incident to the Chilaw Police.
An operation is currently underway to locate and apprehend the suspect involved in the attack.
