A 29-year-old police constable was killed after a collision between a motorbike and a lorry on the Galle-Colombo Main Road in Beruwala yesterday (3).
The deceased constable was attached to the traffic branch of the Kalutara-North Police Station. He was identified as Asanka Kelum (29) of Haburugala, Mahawila.
Beruwala Police said he had been on his way to Galle to purchase computer spare parts needed for his duty station when he met with the accident.
Police further said that the accident had occurred when the motorcyclist attempted to overtake the lorry. Part of the motorbike had struck the side of the lorry. The lorry driver has been arrested and investigations are ongoing.
