The police curfew imposed on the Puttalam district and the Kochchikada police division was removed at 8am this morning. Curfew will be reimposed again at 2pm.
Police Headquarters stated that the curfew was being lifted in order to ensure that handing over of nominations for the parliamentary election is not disrupted.
However, police states that members of the public should limit their movements during the time the curfew is lifted while they must stay inside their homes when curfew is in effect.
Only public transport vehicles and vehicles used by emergency services will be allowed on the road when the police curfew is in effect.
Passengers traveling to the Bandaranaike International Airport can produce their airlibe tickets as curfew passes.
