Police have fired water cannon and tear gas to disperse protesters opposite the Indian Consulate in Hambantota a short while ago. The protest, organized by the Joint Opposition (JO) is being held to protest against the alleged sale of Magampura Port and the Mattala Airport.
The protesters had reportedly attempted to march towards the Indian Consulate breaking down police barricades when police fired water cannon and then tear gas to disperse them.
