Police issues clarification on suspect; says wrong photo used in a case of mistaken identity

The Police Department has issued a clarification stating that the photograph of the suspect identified as Abdul Cader Fathima Qadiya was a case of mistaken identity.

Issuing a clarification, Police Media Spokemsan SP Ruwan Gunasekara said that the Criminal Investigations Department had initially released the photographs of six suspects along with their names, seeking public assistance to locate them.

However, the police spokesman noted that the CID had later informed them that the photograph which accompanied the name Abdul Cader Fathima Qadiya was erroneous.

Meanwhile, the actual individual pictured in the photograph provided by the Sri Lanka Police has been identified as a US national Amara Majeed and not that of Abdul Cader Fathima Qadiya.

Ms. Majeed taking to her social media account refuted the initial police report by stating that her image was "falsely identified by the Sri Lankan government as one of the ISIS terrorists that have committed the Easter attacks in Sri Lanka".

"Please stop implicating and associating me with these horrific attacks," she proceeded to request on her Facebook post.

The image in Black and White above  is what the Police initially released. The  CID has confirmed that the picture released in the suspect list purporting to show Fathima Qadiya is incorrect. CID says the woman in the picture is not Fathima Qadiya who is the wanted suspect.
