Police have launched a probe to uncover further details pertaining to the death of a 16-year old student at Budugehinna Maha Vidyalaya, Galkiriyagama yesterday (Jan 09).
A 16-year old student was killed after a concrete slab which was a part of a pavillion undergoing construction, had fallen on him while he was engaging in sports practices at school.
The student was rushed to the Galewela hospital following which he succumbed to his injuries. He was expected to sit for his G.C.E. Ordinary Level examinations this year.
The remains of the victim who has been identified as Sashidu Krishan Karunathilaka, a resident of Dewahuwa, currently lies at the Galewela hospital.
A post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out on the victim's body at the Dambulla hospital today.
