Police today maintained strict security checks on the Southern Expressway to prevent entry or exit of persons to the Western province.
The Southern expressway passengers were closely monitored and all of them were carefully checked whether they were in possession of a valid curfew pass or was authorised to travel.
Checks were also being carried out to ascertain if persons who left the province in view of the curfew earlier were trying to return to the Western province.
However, it was revealed that some of them had left for valid reasons while some of them had left well in advance of the declaration of the curfew.
The curfew in the Western province and other areas - Kurunegala city limits, Kuliyapitiya and Eheliyagoda are due to continue until next Monday.
