Police officer accused of soliciting bribe from temple custodian further remanded

A police officer accused of soliciting a bribe from the custodian of a temple was further remanded until November 13 upon orders issued by the Colombo Magistrate's Court.

Assistant Superintendent Keerthi Bandara was arrested after allegedly soliciting a bribe of Rs 190,000 to assist in recovering two lost conch shells belonging to a temple in Chilaw.

During today’s hearing, the Bribery Commission which arrested the suspect, told court the custodian had filed a complaint stating he had received death threats for complaining about the incident.

The lawyer appearing for the defendant had requested court to release his client on bail. Court had ordered that a ruling in that regard would be issued during the next hearing.
