Police prevented a protest in Vavuniya demanding justice over disappeared persons, during Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's visit to the North yesterday (Aug 13).
Families of those who had gone missing during the war have staged a continuous protest which has been taking place for more than 900 days in the vicnity of the Vavuniya postal office.
Protestors had attempted to take part in a protest march upto the Vavuniya General Hospital where the Prime Minister was attending an event. However, police had blocked the road leading to the hospital in order to prevent the demonstration from taking place.
A tense situation too had arisen between the police and the protestors at that time.
