The Police have commenced investigations into the strike action by rail unions despite Railways being declared as an essential service.
According to the Police, the probe had been launched upon a complaint filed by Railways General Manager Dilantha Fernando.
Any attempt to disrupt a service which has been declared as an essential one will be considered to be an offence.
Accordingly, statements will be recorded from the railway trade unionists, police said.
Further police noted that steps are being taken to file legal action against the unionists for breaching Emergency Regulations.
The 24-hour token strike launched by railway trade unions ended last midnight. The strike had been centered around several issues including salary anomalies in the rail sector.
