The Police have rejected claims that two Police officers pledged support to a Presidential candidate, as reported on social media.
Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara, in a statement, said that two police officers had been photographed while discussing "security matters" with a candidate, during a visit to Jaffna, on Monday.
He explained that the Police officers identified as Assistant Superintendent R. Dasanayaka, and Inspector Prasad Fernando, had been on duty at that time.
The spokesman pointed out that the photograph had been captured without the knowledge of either the police officers or the Police department.
He added that the photograph had been interpreted wrongly on social media.
