Police have launched a search operation to apprehend a group of individuals who had kidnapped a gem businessman and stolen his belongings in Meegamuwa yesterday (Mar 25).
It has been revealed that the businessman was a manager at a hotel in Negombo and had requested the group of people to come to his hotel in order to purchase the gems.
However, the suspects after having examined the gems had kidnapped the businessman at gunpoint. They had proceeded to kidnap the hotel manager in their van and had stolen his possessions.
The businessman had been released in Meegamuwa, police said adding that Rs 50,000 or more had been stolen from the suspect along with a few gems.
The suspects have been identified using the assistance of CCTV footage. Accordingly, investigations have commenced to arrest the suspects.
