The police sergeant who was arrested in connection with the shooting incident which took place at the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) headquarters in Dematagoda, last year has been released from all charges today (Apr 05).
This was announced when the suspect who was attached to the security detail of Minister Arjuna Ranathunga was produced before Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne this morning.
Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) informed court that the Attorney General has issued instructions to refrain from taking further legal action against the suspect.
Accordingly, Chief Magistrate Jayaratne had ordered the defendant to be released from all charges.
The police sergeant was previously remanded following which he was released on bail by the Colombo High Court
