The Elections Secretariat is investigating an incident during which cheques had been distributed to Samurdhi Managers at the Social Empowerment Ministry today (Oct 21).
A senior official at the polls body said that election officers, upon information, had raided the ministry, and are questioning the relevant officials over the matter.
The Election Commission had imposed a regulation that using state property for any activity which could grant political advantage would be prohibited during the run-up to the presidential election.
This also included promotions and transfers of state employees.
However, the senior official said that cheques had been distributed by the ministry despite being issued a warning to that effect previously.
