The Election Commission (EC) has told secretaries of political parties that there could be a possibility of conducting the presidential election on November 15, Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) National Organiser Nishantha Sri Warnasinghe said.
A meeting had been held held yesterday (Sept 17) on matters concerning the upcoming presidential polls.
During the meeting, polls officials had informed political parties to submit a letter certifying the elegibility of their respective candidates to contest at the election, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organiser Basil Rajapaksa said.
Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, United National Party General Secretary said that EC officials had observed that the polls would be conducted between November 15 and December 7.
Speaking to reporters after the discussion, Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara reiterated that a new logo must be created if the SLFP is to form an alliance with the SLPP to contest at the polls.
