Postal unions have announced a strike action from 4 pm tomorrow (Jul 16) due to certain unresolved issues, the Sri Lanka Postal Services Union said.
The union, in a release, claimed, some 26,000 postal workers have been inconvenienced by the recruitment procedure which was introduced in line with the Public Administration Circular No.06/2006 on salaries of public servants.
Accordingly, employees have been deprived of recruitments, promotions and reasonable salaries for the last 13 years, unions claimed.
Meanwhile, unionists also said that the recommendations of the Presidential Commission which was appointed to resolve their issues after a 16-day strike on June 11 last year, had not been implemented yet.
They also said that the government and the postal administration must bear responsibility for the inconveniences faced by the public owing to their trade union actions.
