Ahead of the ongoing postal voting which commenced today, five Tamil political parties based in the North and Eastern provinces collectively urged Tamil people to exercise their democratic franchise wisely, a senior leader of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) said.
C.V.K. Sivagnanam, a senior leader of the Illankai Thamil Arasuk Katchi (ITAK) of TNA told Times Online that a decision to urge voters to exercise their franchise was taken following a meeting between representatives of five political parties.
These parties had put forwarded a 13 point proposals of Tamil concerns as a precondition to support any Presidential candidate.
“We have had so many rounds of discussions with other parties in order to take a collective stand. Since the manifesto of major political parties is yet to be released, we cannot come to an informed decision,” Mr Sivagnanam told Times Online while stressing that this decision was only applicable to postal voting alone.
