The Power and Renewable Energy Ministry has amended the schedule of the duration of the imposed power cuts to one and half hours daily due to the break down of the Norochcholai Coal Power plant.
Power and Renewable Energy Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya addressing a media briefing yesterday said that power cuts would be imposed for one week except in Colombo, hospitals and industrial zones.
The power cuts would last for an hour in the morning and half an hour in the evenings.
Minister Siyambalapitiya added that due to the break down at the Norochcholai power plant, the National Grid had lost 900 MW which was the main reason for the power cuts.
The minister also requested the electricity consumers to minimise the use of electricity so that the power cut could be further reduced.
