Power cuts could continue even after the Avurudu season if the country's electricity demands exceed 2700 MW, a CEB source told Times Online.
The source added that should the weather improve during the next few months it would offer an opportunity to generate hydro power while also enabling the supply of water for agricultural purposes.
However, there will be no power cuts during the Avurudu Season starting from tomorrow (Apr 10), the CEB source noted adding that steps have been taken to overcome the deficit of 300 MW in the national grid.
In addition to purchasing power from Independent Power Producers (IPP), the government has also obtained additional power from a floating power plant in order to reduce the power deficit.
In addition, cabinet approval has also been granted to purchase a further 500 MW's of power from an IPP in the near future as well , the Ministry of Power and Energy said in a media release.
