Power supply has been restored to the Vavuniya district after it had been suspended following an assault on Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) employees, minister Ravi Karunanayake said.
“Rival political groups are stirring up issues in certain areas,” the Power and Energy Minister told reporters after engaging in Hindu religious observances in Batticaloa today (Nov 6).
CEB employees in Vavuniya had reportedly been assaulted when they attempted to disconnect the power supply to a residence over the failure to pay the electricity bill.
This situation had led to the suspending of power to several areas in the district, prompting residents to stage a protest last night.
Minister Karunanayake said that the Police have informed that the suspects connected to the incident have been apprehended. “I kindly requested the CEB employees to avoid inconveniencing the consumers,” he added.
