Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa today (Oct 17) vowed to set-up a Presidential Task Force on National Development, to resolve problems within a day.
“We will set-up an office of the Presidential Task Force in every divisional secretariat,” the New Democratic Front (NDF) candidate told a rally in Kekirawa.
Complaints faced by the people in their areas, can be made at these offices, and a solution would be provided within 24 hours, he said.
Premadasa also promised to resolve the issues faced by the people who are attacked by elephants which storm into villages, resulting in several fatalities.
He opined that this issue identified as the ‘human – elephant conflict’ could be resolved by installing electric fences and adopting other latest mechanisms.
“We will provide compensation to those whose crops have been destroyed as a result of the human-elephant conflict,” the NDF candidate promised.
He told supporters that he would pass laws for the government to purchase rice from farmers at a standard rate of Rs 50 a kilo, and also provide free fertiliser to all farmers.
