President Maithripala Sirisena has requested politicians to refrain from making politically motivated statements that could damage national security.
Addressing a ceremony at the Regimental Centre of the Special Forces in Kohanawela today (Aug 16), the President lauded the efforts of the security forces towards ensuring security in the country.
During his address, Mr. Sirisena lamented that certain individuals who had been previously in-charge of the military were now making inappropriate statements due to certain political agendas.
He advised against making such statements by pointing out that it would destroy the country and the community.
The President also stated that the security of the country has now been ensured with the assistance of the country's security divisions and that no room will be created for another terrorist attack in the country.
During today's event, the President’s “Rana Parashuwa' and Regimental 'Rana Parashuwa' Award were handed over to the Regimental Centre of the Special Forces by the President.
