President Maithripala Sirisena has said that the 18th and 19th amendments must be abolished in order to created a democratic and peaceful enviornment in the country.
Addressing an event at the BMICH today (Jun 23), the President said that the the motives of the 'Yahapalanaya' (good governance) government could not be fulfilled due to the political instability created by the 19th amendment.
He said that instability had been created since the country could not function under a single leadership following the latest constitutional amendement.
During the event which was held to mark the 40th anniversary of the National Housing Authority, Mr. Sirisena observed that the country needs a leadership which is concerned about the welfare of the people.
The President also stressed that the needs of the people could be fulfilled easily if public servants fulfill their duties without engaging bribery and corruption.
