The Second Session of Sri Lanka's Eighth Parliament was ceremonially opened by President Maithripala Sirisena a short while ago.
President Sirisena, who arrived at the Parliament complex, was accorded a guard of honour and a gun salute by the military before being escorted into the Parliament.
The Presidenti is currently reading the Government's Policy Statement for the reminder of its term.
