President Maithripala Sirisena has held a discussion with senior police officers on the implementation of the proposals which were formulated to resolve issues pertaining to lower-ranking police officers.
These proposals were drafted on the instructions of the President to establish an effective service that could benefit both police officers and the public as well.
During the meeting, the President instructed the senior police officers to take steps to increase health facilities and allowances of the police personnel.
Mr. Sirisena had also emphasised the need for regular medical checkups to ensure a healthy police force.
In addition, the President had issued instructions to purchase the vacant land belonging to the Urban Development Authority in order to expand the Narahenpitiya Police Hospital.
He had also advised to amend the National Enviornmental Regulations in order to grant power to the police to implement the ban on polythene
