President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed railway trade unions to call off their indefinite strike action which is in its 12th day today (Oct 7), the President's Office said.
During a meeting with Unions at the Presidential Secretariat, President Sirisena had said he would intervene and resolve their issues after the strike is called off.
The President had stressed that it is the responsibility of unionists to engage in trade union action without inconveniencing the public.
Railway trade unions are currently engaged in a strike action citing anomalies in their grading and salaries.
