President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) to seek the opinion of the Supreme Court on the order of conducting the upcoming provincial and presidential elections.
These instructions had been issued during an SLFP Central Committee meeting yesterday (Jul 24), United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera told Times Online.
During the meeting, the President, who is also Chairman of the SLFP, had pointed out that the Elections Commission has been insisting that the provincial polls should be held first.
Meanwhile, President Sirisena had also advised his party members to continue their talks with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), in order to face the elections as an alliance under a common banner.
