President Maithripala Sirisena today (Jan 08) called on the general public to join hands and fight against the elimination of corruption from the political system.
“I have tried my utmost to eradicate corruption from the political system through the yahapalana (good governance) mandate” the President said while delivering a special address at the opening of the Laggala Green City project which coincided with his fourth year anniversary in office.
However, the President admitted that the government had failed to achieve all its goals and thereby invited the general public to unite and help eliminate corruption.
The Green City project was carried out under the Mahaweli Development Programme at a cost of Rs 215 million.
President Sirisena after having declared open the Green City had then unveiled a special commemoration plaque constructed out of stone.
