A special discussion on the development work of the Deegavapi sacred place was held yesterday, under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena, President Media Unit said. The President inquired about the progress of the development work which has been implemented so far and questioned officials about the future plans in that regard. He emphasized the necessity of expediting the development work of the Deegavapi sacred place which was blessed with the Buddha’s arrival. He said the development must be done in a proper way through proper planning. Three proposals regarding the development work were presented on this occasion. The President asked for the officials to form a committee comprising representatives of sectors related to archaeology and culture to study the proposals and prepare a report. The President pointed out that the development work of the sacred place can be continued according to that report through a proper plan. President of Deegavapi Development Council Mr. Daya Gamage and the Director General of Archaeology Dr. Senarath Dissanayake also participated in this discussion. Attention was also paid on the preservation work of Unagala Vehera, Polonnaruwa. The Chief Incumbent of the Rajamaha Vihara, Girithale Ven. Girithale Gnanissara Thero and the members of the development committee of the Rajamaha Viharaya participated in the discussion.
