In a bid to resolve the prevailing economic situation in the country President Maithriapla Sirisena has requested the Finance Ministry to develop a report on non-essential items that can be restricted from importation.
According to a press release issued by the President’s Media Division, the President made this request at the national economic council which convened yesteday(October 16).
According to the media release the the economic council at the meeting outlined the crisis being faced in the country , due to the increase of the dollar in the international market.
According to the President’s Media Division, the economic council focused on the need to encourage local production of non-essential items that have been temporarily restricted.
Ministers Mangala Samaraweera, Rajitha Senaratne, Sarath Amunugama, Duminda Dissanayake, Mahinda Amaraweera and Malik Samarawickrama were also present at the meeting.
