President Maithripala Sirisena has ordered that the tax levied on a kilogram of potato be increased from Rs 20 to Rs 50, following a request by Northern Governor Suren Raghavan.
Governor Raghavan said that the tax was increased with the motive of facilitating local potato cultivators to earn a higher income especially during this harvesting season.
Accordingly, the tax revision has been in effect since yesterday (Jan 01).
