Police officers who performed exceptionally well in implementing the ‘Mathin Nidahas Ratak’ (Drug Free Nation) programme were felicitated by President Maithripala Sirisena at the Sugathadasa Stadium today (Jan 28).
Accordingly, 1,034 Police officers who were involved in drug raids and prevention activities from January 14, 2015 to January 14, 2019 were felicitated at the ceremony.
Awards were given under three categories and accordingly, 15 officers will be awarded with the Presidential Medal of Police Gallantry, 59 officers with Sri Lanka Police Gallantry Medal and the rest with Janadipathi Prashansa certificates.
The Presidential Task Force on the Prevention of Drugs was appointed to reduce the manufacturing, transportation and marketing of illicit drugs by 80 percent by 2020.
The national drug prevention week which commenced on January 21 comes to a close today.
