President Maithripala Sirisena has said that the children of Lichchavi Kings would commit suicide if they had listened to the speech of a "senior government official" recently.
The President made these remarks during an event held in Hanguranketha yesterday (Jun 18).
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had recently stated that his government believes in the efforts to work in unison while upholding the principles of Lichchavi administration.
"The Lichchavi system of administration is not practiced in any country," the President said. However, he admitted that this system would be beneficial if implemented.
Mr. Sirisena also stressed that the country's national policy must be prepared based on the teachings of Buddhism.
He said the minority communities in this country must feel fortunate to live in this Buddhist country when considering the current unfavourable situation of several countries.
"We still have the opportunity of correcting ourselves," the President emphasised adding that the country is in a better position in terms of human values and qualities when compared to other countries.
