Chairman of the UNP, Kabir Hashim issuing a statement in response to comments made by the President yesterday said, the President should take part of the blame if the cases of corruption he was referring to were true.
MP Hashim said that the President should do so since he was the head of the government and state for the past three years.
Responding to the President's statement on his decision to refrain from appointing Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister for "his lifetime", MP Hashim said that is was a "blatant violation of the fundamentals of parliamentary democracy". He also said that the constitution does not provide room for personal agendas.
MP Hashim signed off by saying that the UNP wishes to remind the President that he was not appointed as the President for a lifetime.
