President Maithripala Sirisena has requested the public to exercise their franchise peacefully instead of engaging in illegal campaigning and refraining from being deceived by gossip.
Issuing a special statement, the President's Media Division quoted the President as saying that the power and duty of a citizen, is to vote for a candidate of their choice.
He had also said that the environment required to conduct a free election has been created in the country by empowering the police, tri-forces, and other security units.
President Sirisena's term in office which began in 2015 will end following this year's presidential election.
