President to dissolve Parliament with effect from midnight
President Maithripala Sirisena will dissolve Parliament with effect from midnight tonight.
The relevant gazette notification has been sent to the Government printer, the state run Rupavahini announced.
Informed sources say plans are underway to hold general elections on January 5, 2019 provided the gazette notification released by the President is not challenged.
