President Maithripala Sirisena has urged the Human Rights Commission (HRC) to co-ordinate with the relevant authorities and expedite the deployment of military personnel for UN peacekeeping missions.
Addressing a meeting with the HRC today (Jun 20) the President had pointed out that the UN would lose its trust on Sri Lanka if the process of deploying military personnel is continuously delayed.
During the meeting, Mr. Sirisena had stressed that there was a high demand for Sri Lankan military personnel due to their skilled and ethical conduct, the President's Media Division said.
Accordingly, he had said that relevant steps must be taken to provide opportunities for these personnel to receive military training offered by foreign countries.
Officials of the HRC including its Chairman Deepika Udugama and Defence Secretary Major General Shantha Kottegoda were present during the meeting.
