The Presidential Secretariat has advised the public against believing recent claims that the country is facing a security threat at present.
President's Secretary Udaya Seneviratne, in a statement, said these claims had been made by misinterpreting reminders issued by the Presidential Secretariat to ensure security at state institutions and places of national importance.
He emphasised that reminders are being issued frequently only in keeping with a circular issued on April 23 in the immediate aftermath of the Easter Sunday terror attacks, and do not imply a warning of another attack.
"There is no need for unnecessary fear among the people through these false and distorted claims," Senaviratne noted.
He added that security units have been instructed to ensure the security of state institutions, places of national importance and also ensure public security.
