The Presidential Secretariat has issued a gazette notification confirming the resignation of MLAM Hizbullah and Azath Salley as Governors yesterday (Jun 03).
The gazette notification signed by President's Secretary Udaya R Seneviratne reads that both provincial governors had resigned from their offices on June 03, 2019.
Mr. Hizbullah and Mr. Salley were serving as the Governors of the Eastern and Western Provinces respectively.
They were forced to resign from their respective offices after several protests and a fast-unto-death campaign by parliamentarian Ven Athuraliye Rathana Thera demanded their resignation from office due to their alleged links with the Easter Sunday terror attacks.
