Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, Alice Wells is to travel to Colombo and the Maldives from October 9-11, the US State Department said in a statement.
Ambassador Wells will reiterate the strong U.S. commitment to our partnerships with Sri Lanka and Maldives and our shared interests in a prosperous and open Indo-Pacific region, the statement said.
In Colombo, she will meet with Sri Lankan officials and will emphasize the importance of the U.S.-Sri Lanka relationship to shared Indo-Pacific goals, with the growing bilateral defense relationship as an area of particular promise. She will also urge continued progress on constitutional reform, human rights, reconciliation, and transitional justice and accountability, the statement said.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
